  Abstract
Security of e-payment systems – microprocessor-based Smart Cards demonstrates key issue in sector of consumer electronics market. Even though encryption methods have been improving away for decades already, a whole new class of attacking techniques has been developed, which can extract the secret key examining the information leaked by hardware implementation of encryption modules. In this paper, influence of different CMOS technologies (90nm and 65nm) implemented in crypto-cores, on the leakage current data and security of Smart Cards will be analyzed. CMOS is still the most implemented technology in crypto-cores of Smart Cards, but there are new emerging technologies that seem to be more resistant to various attacks and need more testing from different point of views.  One of them is TDPL (Three-Phase Dual-Rail Pre-Charge Logic) and will be compared to CMOS technology, both in 65nm technology.  The results of this study show that leakage current can be easily exploited as a side channel by an attacker to extract information about the secret key in cryptographic hardware in CMOS crypto-design, while TDPL shows as a reliable countermeasure to use in future designs.
