A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is an ad-hoc network of sensor nodes deployed to monitor or collect data from the environment in which it works. In many application domains, the WSN nodes are deployed in a hostile / fault-prone environment. So, it is important to design fault-tolerant protocols, as frequent replacement of nodes is not always a viable option in such environments. In this paper, we propose CLAFTRA: a cross- layered learning automata based fault tolerant routing protocol for WSN, which efficiently routes data across the network even in the presence of faults. It does so by maintaining multiple paths between source and destination using certain parameters. In this protocol, we have used the concepts of learning automata (LA) to reduce the overhead in the network caused due to multipath routing and cross layer design for making the network energy-efficient. The simulation results of the proposed protocol using NS-2 shows an increase in energy efficiency of the network and decrease in overhead as compared
to the existing protocols. |
